In this realm of design, 'Playgardens' are our specialty. Charles Steele and Associates introduced the 'Playgarden' idea back in the 90's as an environmentally ‘Green’ proposal to the usual playground of steel and plastic structures on a rubber mat. Furthermore, a play garden can be designed and built for 10%-50% less than a manufactured playground and can be built with volunteer help.
A play garden provides space within a naturalized environment for children to be children and use their imaginations in the broadest sense; to play, explore, and create, with few pre-conceived limitations. In the past it was common for children to play outside at the creek, in the woods, or in the fields. Housing patterns, security issues and irresistible indoor amusements have limited this opportunity for many of today’s young people.
